Unknown or obscure titles will sell poorly. Also other popular intellectual properties that are well known to the public will sell well even if its a port or a sequel/FD. What we can take away from this is that Uta no Prince-sama will always move massive units in a short amount of time even if it’s the same old shit from 10 years ago. I’ll make a table comprising of all the Switch title sales to date using this data from ggirluriage as well as including PS Vita sales for titles that released in 2019 to compare how they fared in competition with Switch titles. 2019’s results were an interesting look into how Switch games fared. There is a really good resource keeping track of otome game sales over multiple console platforms throughout the years. Which in turn makes popular titles selling out more quickly than let’s say Switch ports (which is visibly evident in the picture above where the only Switch games still on the shelf are Switch ports). So it makes me wonder if Otomate, or any other otome company, is releasing only a small number of units of their games upon launch so there wouldn’t be a surplus of unsold Switch games as switch otome game sales are lacklustre. The shelves of otome games in Ikebukuro Animate store, a store mostly catering to female customers I’ve been having a hard time trying to get a copy and CDJapan says they can’t get any more stock unless there’s a big demand from the manufacturer to make more 🤔Īnother example is when I went to Japan in 2019 and tried to get my hands on a physical copy of Private Academy VerRose–a Switch game that released a month before my trip to Japan–and seeing nothing on the shelf of an Ikebukuro Animate store. One example is the regular edition physical copies of Jakou no Lyla for Nintendo Switch being sold out within 2 months of it’s release in a majority of online stores.
